Church and Twitter?…

With the hundreds of internet communication/networking fads out there, how is the church to decide whether or not to adopt them as a viable communication/networking tool?  We’ve seen the successful integrations of YouTube, blogging, and Myspace/Facebook (sort of).  So what about the new kid on the block?  Twitter?

If you aren’t familiar with Twitter, basically it’s a mini-blog made up of 140 character posts (or learn more here).  It’s meant for you to update multiple times per day to keep your “followers” up to date on all of your goings-on.  I’ve been using Twitter for a couple months now and have thoroughly enjoyed it.  It’s been nice to feel connected to others throughout the day.  For example: My dad has a Twitter account.  He lives in Virginia so I don’t get a ton of interaction with him.  But it’s nice to get a random “tweet” from him periodically.  It keeps us, indirectly, connected across hundreds of miles.

So I ask the question: Is Twitter something that could be used, effectively, in the church? (here’s a couple articles on the matter: 1, 2, 3)

I’ve recently started “following” Mansfield ISD on Twitter and have been thoroughly impressed with their use of it.  There are also several pastors that use it, not only for personal updates, but sermon updates as well.

But can the church actually utilize this tool in an effective way?  Are there enough people in the congregation twittering to even bother?  Is there a more creative way we can integrate this tool into our websites and blogs?  Services?

Sometimes I’m Really Embarrassed of America…

This was apparently one of many segments that ABC did. I love (sometimes) hidden camera specials. The first two guests in this particular segment make me want to puke. But on the good side, this video takes place in a very special place to me — West, TX. Now I generally stop at the world famous Czech Stop Bakery, but if you have to go to the Little Czech Bakery, then I guess you’re still doing pretty well.

Watch the video, tell me what you think? What would you do? What’s the church’s role in this?

The Lord’s Legos…

I’m pretty sure most of you are aware of this, but I’ll post it anyways. I was reminded of a little website today called The Brick Testament (thanks jkyle). It is incredible. It is the Bible, illustrated with legos.
